O Solitude/The One with the good Device
O Solitude (Purcell) | The one with the good device (Christof) / Spoken |
2 Sometimes I cut myself. For no reason.
o solitude, my sweetest choice! o solitude, o solitude, my sweetest, sweetest choice! | 2 (to herself at first, continuously increasing as it becomes a defense) Make her shut up, make her shut up, make her shut up, make her shut up, make her shut up, make her shut up, make her shut up, make her shut up, make her shut up! |
places devoted do the night, remote from tumult and from noise how ye my restless thoughts delight! | 1 It’s for the best, believe me. |
o solitude, o solitude, my sweetest, sweetest choice! | 1 EW, THAT SMELLS HORRIBLE! |
1 You can spend lots of time trying to stare back 2 Hold this please 1 And harden your eyes and stand really really upright 2 Hold it here please 1 And make that cracking sound with your fingers while maintaining a straightforward look. 2 A little higher 1 (ejaculates in falsetto) CRACK
O heav’ns! What content is mine To see these trees, which have appear’d from the nativity of time, and which all ages have rever’d to look today as fresh and green, to look today as fresh and green as when their beauties first were seen | 1 We should leave it covered and see what it does, no? 2 (to herself) Walk straight, walk straight, walk straight, Don’t turn your head, just keep walking, it’ll be over in a minute! |
o, o, how agreeable a sight these hanging mountains do appear, which th’unhappy would invite to finish all their sorrows here, when their hard, their hard fate makes them endure Such woes, such woes as only death can cure. | 1 Great. They confused music with applause again and now people stand around like fucking cretins and look like a bunch of retarded vegetables. 1 Finally, a worthy opponent! [voc solo] 1 Are you supposed to do that? I think you are not supposed to do that! |
o, o, how i solitude adore! o, o, how i solitude adore! | 2 Add a smile. Add a tail. Add a suit. President. |
that element of noblest wir, where i have learnt, where i have learnt apollo’s lore, without the pains, the pains to study it. | 2 WITH THAT OTHER THING YOU WERE WRONG, BY THE WAY! |
for thy sake i in love am grown with what thy fancy, thy fancy does pursue | 1 Only if it’s clean. Can’t have it, if not. I mean, how are you supposed to bend it properly anyway? |
but when i think upon my own, i hate it, i hate it for that reason too because it needs must hinder me from seeing, from seeing and from serving thee | 1 Maybe. But if you talk to him like that one more time… |
2 Good times, eh? You go to bed thinking of incense and junipers and wake up with a dead duckling in your mouth. Nature has its ways and so do we.
o solitude, o, how i solitude adore! | 2 (cont’d) We spend so much time worrying that the things not to be afraid of just pass our sight too quickly. They slide from one corner of the eye to the other like a well lubricated screen door and there is like a living room on the one side of it and a garden on the other. And in the garden you serve yourself your favorite course of dinner, like a quail or a perfect piece of tofu or whatever. Anyway. In the living room there is a bird house and in this very moment three or four eggs are hatching. Can you see it? But one is not moving at all. This is the one that contains the worries I was talking about . It was only laid, never fed or cleaned or whatever. It was only laid by one prior generation, just put there. But the worries don’t need to hatch. Instead they are only contained and wait and have no reason to move at all; and if your are very very lucky, a cuckoo chooses this particular egg and pushes it out of the nest. |
